With a simpler structure than the official Roman rite for the Liturgy of the Hours, this prayer is more accessible to all members of the Church. Thus it renews the original intent of morning and evening prayer as the prayer of the whole Church.

This adaptation is in keeping with a long tradition of accommodating morning and evening prayer to the needs of the particular faith community. The language is inclusive, only 45 psalms (chosen for their appropriateness to the time of day and daily rhythm of the paschal mystery) are used, and the work is arranged in a two-week series that begins on the weekend.

Two marked styles shape the prayer offered. The weekdays are more contemplative; the structure is simple, the psalms are recited. Weekends are noticeably festive; the structure is more elaborate and much of the prayer is sung.

The simple structure means no ordo is needed, page-flipping is kept to a minimum, and music is included to encourage singing of appropriate elements. Suggestions for choosing scriptural texts are included in the introduction; the scriptural texts themselves are not included. Two ribbon markers.

"Those who attend daily are developing a feeling of being present to God and to each other, picking up each other's readiness to move on in the prayer."
-Christ the King Church, CANADA
"This excellent volume will work wonderfully in parish settings, religious communities and for individual use. It has been prepared with learned and careful hands; their love of morning and evening prayer is apparent throughout."
-The Catholic Weekly
"Perhaps the most thorough, fresh endeavour to restore the cathedral office as the prayer of all Christian people is found in Pray without Ceasing. . . . One of the finest features of the book is the degree to which it takes seriously liturgical time and the paschal mystery. . . . The psalmody is noteworthy. . . . It is an accessible, liturgically principled vehicle for praying the Liturgy of the Hours. While its immediate sphere of influence will naturally be with Roman Catholic Christians, one hopes that it will also receive ecumenical attention, and become a model for a restored cathedral/parochial office in other traditions that can only imagine what the authors of Pray without Ceasing have actually accomplished."
-Église Et Théologie
"Pray without Ceasing is a simple, shorter, user-friendly version of Morning and Evening Prayer and is a welcome addition to the growing number of alternatives to the official books."
-Liturgy
