Praise to the Lord is a celebration of hymns from all ages of the Church's existence. It combines many popular hymns and some deserving more recognition into a collection that emphasizes praise, thanksgiving, social concern, and Eucharist. Like all recordings by the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter's-in-the-Loop, this collection is an oral and spiritual delight. It models good assembly hymn-leading by organ, choir, and descanting instruments. It also demonstrates how certain hymns can be used as anthems by smaller choirs.

Praise to the Lord contains:

  • Praise to the Lord
  • How Firm a Foundation
  • My Shepherd Will Supply My Need
  • Prayer of St. Francis
  • Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
  • Amid the World's Bleak Wilderness
  • Lord of All Hopefulness
  • Come, Let Us Join Our Cheerful Songs
  • Lord of All Nations
  • Grant Me Grace
  • Lift High the Cross
  • When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
  • Pescador de Hombres
  • Now Thank We All Our God
  • When Christ Was Lifted From the Earth
  • Alleluia! Sing to Jesus
  • O Lord, I Am Not Worthy
  • Gift of Finest Wheat
  • God is Working His Purpose Out
  • Holy God, We Praise Thy Name

J. Michael Thompson is the director of music ministry at St. Peter's Church, where he is the founder and director of the Schola Cantorum. He has been a pastoral musician and liturgist for twenty years, as well as a composer, author, and a noted promoter of the Liturgy of the Hours and Gregorian chant in contemporary parish situations.
